Questions
Before you book
What does the plan cost, and is it credited to the work?
The plan fee is written on your estimate before we begin, and it depends on how many rooms we draw. If you hire us to install the plan, the fee is credited toward the work. If you take the plan to another electrician, you keep it.
Do you pull the permit?
Where the work needs one, we pull it and schedule the inspection. Not every fixture swap needs a permit. We tell you which yours does before the estimate.
Will you have to open my walls?
Sometimes. New cove or recessed lights in a finished ceiling need access, and adobe walls take surface runs or chases. The plan shows where, so a plasterer or painter can be booked before we start.
Can you work from my designer's drawings?
Yes. Send the reflected ceiling plan or the electrical sheet and we mark it up with box locations, dimmer groups and anything the structure won't allow. The designers page lists what we send back.
Do you do emergency repair?
No. We design and install lighting on a planned schedule and the office keeps weekday hours. For sparks, a burning smell or a hot outlet, call 911 if there is fire, and if it is safe, turn off the breaker. Then call a local licensed electrician for urgent repair.
Are you licensed and insured, and how do I check?
The license line in the footer shows the state, the board and the class, with a link to the board's lookup page. Ask us for the insurance certificate before work starts.
Can I send a photo instead of describing the room?
Yes. Text a photo of the room, the ceiling and the panel to the number in the footer. It helps us prepare for the walk-through. It is not a quote: we price the plan after we have seen the house.
My house was built before 1978. Does that change anything?
Paint from before 1978 may contain lead. Tell us when the house was built. Where the work will disturb old paint, the estimate says how that will be handled and what it adds.
How long does a room take?
It depends on the walls and the fixtures. We give a schedule in writing with the estimate, and say what depends on fixture delivery.
Still have a question?
Call the office or text a photo of the room.
